Paul Torrey of the Department of Astronomy has received a Spring 2021 UF Excellence Award for Assistant Professors, recognizing and supporting the potential of his research.

Each year, the award honors 10 pre-tenure faculty members throughout the university who have shown outstanding promise in research. It entails a one-time allocation of $5,000, which can be used to fund travel, equipment, books, graduate student stipends, and other research-related expenses.

“It’s quite an honor to receive this award, and I really appreciate the support from the Department of Astronomy and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as I’ve established my research group at the University of Florida,” Torrey said.

Torrey, PhD, has been an assistant professor of astronomy at UF since 2018. His research concerns the role that feedback plays in shaping galaxy populations, using large cosmological simulations to realistically model how they are formed. Learn more about Torrey’s research here.
