Brian Odegaard Receives Young Investigator Award from Office of Naval Research

Brian Odegaard, PhD

Brian Odegaard, assistant professor of psychology, has been named among the awardees of the Office of Naval Research’s highly competitive 2022 Young Investigator Program.

The program, one of the oldest and most selective in the nation for basic research, supports academic scientists and engineers who contribute creative research within their specialties that benefits the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Odegaard’s award will support a project titled “How Attention and Metacognitive Biases Influence Perceptual Decision-Making in Peripheral Vision.”

Odegaard’s work lends itself to the mission of the Office of Naval Research’s Cognitive Neuroscience of Perception and Attention division. The program seeks to understand how the brain controls the mechanisms of vision and hearing, and thereby improve how artificial intelligent systems operate in real-world environments.

Odegaard was one of 32 recipients of the award out of 220 applicants. The awardees spanned 25 institutions in 16 states.
