Center Awards Inaugural Charles T. Woods Grants

The Center is proud to announce the inaugural winners of the Charles T. Woods Endowment Grants. These grants are made possible by the generosity of Charles T. Woods who, upon his passing, left the gift to support research and service that benefits the LGBTQ+ community.

Charles T. Woods Jr. was a UF alum, faculty member, and leader. He earned his bachelors degree in advertising and masters degree in journalism, both from UF. He went on to become faculty at UF/IFAS Communications until he retired in 2006. Chuck, as he was known to friends and colleagues, was tremendously active on campus, in the community, and in the profession. He earned numerous international awards from the Association for Communications Excellence (ACE). He was a strong supporter of the arts and cultural organizations in Gainesville. He received an Outstanding Service Award for his many years of service on the Gainesville’s City Beautification Board. He was also a proud advocate for the LGBTQ+ community on campus and in the community, and was instrumental in establishing LGBTQ+ faculty and staff visibility, community, and support at UF. We are grateful to Chuck for his generosity and celebrate his ongoing positive impact at UF.

We also thank our outstanding grant review committee members, Greg Allen, Berta Esperanza Hernandez, Amanda Phalin, Tiffany Richards, and Rachel Silveri for their evaluation of the applications
