Kevin Ingersent named interim dean of CLAS

Kevin Ingersent will become interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida effective July 7.

Ingersent has been an interim associate dean of CLAS since 2023. A professor in the Department of Physics, he was the department’s associate chair from 2009 to 2013 and chair from 2013 to 2021. He joined UF in 1992 after receiving his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990.

Joe Glover, interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, announced Ingersent’s appointment in a memo released July 1.

Ingersent replaces Mary Watt, who stepped down as interim dean on June 30. Watt will return to the Department of Languages, Literature and Cultures, where she is a professor of Italian.

Ingersent has taught at all curriculum levels, from undergraduate general education courses to advanced graduate classes. His research focuses on modeling and predicting the behavior of quantum materials. He has served on the CLAS Finance Committee, CLAS Faculty Council, CLAS Curriculum Committee and the UF Faculty Senate.

Ingersent will serve a one-year appointment as interim dean.
