In August 2021, Marta Wayne stepped down after seven years of dedicated service as Chair of the Department of Biology. We are grateful for her leadership and many ongoing contributions to our department as we welcome Brad Barbazuk as our new Chair.

“As always, our mission is to study life at all levels from molecules to the biosphere to understand the evolution, structure, maintenance, and dynamics of biological systems. Our faculty is made up of an energetic community of individuals committed to world-class teaching and scholarship, as evidenced by their acquisition and participation in externally funded research projects and their excellence in teaching. I anticipate a successful year with a drive to increase research funding, the exciting offerings available through our spring Semester of Immersion program, and a return to in-person graduate student recruitment and visits.”
