Love and appreciation is in the air this Valentine’s season with the CLAS Thank-An-Advisor program. Created by Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs and Director of the Academic Advising Center, Gillian Lord, Ph.D., students are able to submit notes to their advisors in gratitude for the support they received.

Lord shares the love by posting the notes in the lobby of the AAC. 

Advisors do more than just help students pick classes, Lord said, they guide, support, and empower students through some of the most pivotal moments of a student’s college experience. Yet, the work of advisors often goes unnoticed, she added. 

“I created this program to give students an easy way to express gratitude and to remind advisors that their efforts truly make a difference,” Lord said. “Seeing the heartfelt messages students have shared already has been incredible, and I hope that this simple act of appreciation helps advisors feel valued and motivated, even amidst their heavy workloads.”

From study abroad applications to pre-law and pre-health guidance, academic advisors are the backbone of the student experience. Below are what some students have shared about their advisors.

“I truly feel cared for and seen with my advisor! He is so attentive to all the outside factors that have affected my performance, and pushes me to succeed every semester. I’m so grateful that someone like him is available to students.”

“Thank you advisor for everything you have done for me! I honestly would not have finished my pre-health course without you. I say this by putting my hands on my heart, you have been the best advisor, supporter, advocate, person that has given me the confidence and precious advice during undergrad! I sincerely appreciate that whenever I came to advising appts, you gave me your precious input. You have seen my ups and really low downs, and inspired me to continue. Your words, attitude, support is so much more than advising. You have inspired me to change my mindset, and revolutionized my inner self to a much more confident, independent and empathetic being. “THANK YOU!! My advisor is the BEST advisor I have ever encountered EVER! He was so sweet and patient with me. He handled my issue very swiftly and made the correction on my degree audit. I’m about to graduate and I just wanted to make sure everything is up to date and I am in the clear, and he was quick to handle the issue at hand and inform me of what needs to be done. AGAIN!
