U.S. News Ranks CLAS Graduate Programs Among Nation’s Best

Criminology, History, English and more named among top programs

Several graduate programs offered by the University of Florida College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) placed among the best in the nation in the 2022 Best Graduate Schools rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.

The college’s graduate programs in Criminology, History, Political Science and English all ranked in the top 30 among public institutions, continuing a trend of strong performances for CLAS in the U.S. News rankings. The new rankings speak to the college’s sustained success during a year beset by the challenges of a global pandemic.

The UF graduate program in Criminology ranked No. 15 among all programs in the United States, rising from its No. 19 rank in 2018. Among public universities, the program ranked No. 14.

Economics, English and History at UF were all ranked as the best graduate programs of their kind among Florida’s state universities.

History ranked No. 24 among public institutions and No. 43 among all schools, English ranked No. 29 among public institutions and No. 53 overall, and Economics ranked No. 34 among public institutions and No. 59 overall. Also ranked were the college’s graduate programs in Political Science, which ranked No. 28 among public institutions and No. 50 overall, and Sociology, which ranked No. 40 among public institutions and No. 64 overall.

The English, History, Political Science and Sociology graduate programs were all ranked for the first time.

The new graduate rankings further attest to UF’s status as a top public university and a premier research institution, building on the university’s recent performances on U.S. News’ rankings of online programs and public universities.

U.S. News did not issue new rankings for graduate programs in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Statistics or Physics, all of which were last updated in the publication’s 2019 rankings.
